It shouldn't be engaged all the time, only when the engine is getting hot, if this is the case it's defect. The RPM sounds right though when engaged. My 328 and 735 have the same rpm range, and noise level, at least on my 328. Since the clutch is new it's probably very strong, and hence more air noise...

I like your comparison to a bus..:)
