I'd go with the '96 840....with the BMW certification. Unless of course you have a 'deep-deep-service' history on the '94 840 and have reasonable assurances of the engine being okay (check the archives on this board......94-95 840's had an engine alloy issue....).

I have a chance to buy either a Certified '96 840 with 40k from a BMW dealer for $42,000 or a well-maintained'94 with 40k from a private party for $35,000 (plus the cost of a 3rd party warranty). Any suggestions or opinions?
