The dealer service departments can vary greatly from one establishment to another. Living in Southern California, I am in relatively close proximity to many official dealerships, and have had services done at at least four different ones. I have had different quotes on repairs, had great service at some and really horrible service at others. One place accidentally popped my tire and had to keep my car for an extra two days while they sought a replacement. The same place pointed out a bent upper control arm, on the same side as the popped tire.. Hmm...

On the other side of the coin, another place reset my alarm when my key battery died and I had to get another. They did this all for free.

IMHO, it would probably be better to look at dealerships on an individiual basis, instead of generalizing that all dealerships are evil.
