I don't understand why BMW has steering wheels the size of a truck's. Does anybody know of an aftermarket steering wheel manufacturer that makes a smaller diameter airbagged wheel that will fit on a '91 850 (with BMW's blessing)? I, like I'm sure most of you, would prefer a more precise feel and less free play in the steering wheel when using it. (Does BMW read these things?) Thanks in advance for any leads.

I'm not sure whether it is actually SMALLER in diameter, but if you check the European Fiche/CD-ROM, you'll find a "motorsport" wheel with airbag. The airbag is relatively small, in keeping with the European theory that airbags are a SUPPLEMENTARY restraint system to be used in conjunction with seatbelts (and they have less LAWYERS). While I'm relatively sure it can be retrofitted--there is a large degree of commonality in the e31s due to low production volume--it is relatively expensive (about $700-800 each for the wheel and bag as I recall).
