Every once in a long long while my turn signals stop blinking. They turn on when I want them to, but they just stay on until the I set the stalk back to neutral.
It seems like this is somehow related to hot weather, because both times it happened I was in 100+ Farenheit temperatures.
Could this be the symptom of a bigger problem? It seems after the car cools down the blinkers revert to their normal state.
I am thoroughly baffled.
Any ideas?
If I understand your problem correctly, it may be
a sign of a bigger problem. I had a similar
problem, except my turn signal lights would not
come on at all in hot weather. When the weather
cooled down, they would start working correctly.
Eventually, they quit working in any weather.
If I recall correctly, the warning flashers were
affected at the same time, and I believe they are
controlled by the same flasher unit. Try the
warning flashers when the turn signals don't work
and see what happens. If they don't work either
it may be the flasher unit.
The solution in my case was to replace the flasher
unit, which is located in the fuse box under the
hood on the driver's side. Check for it when it
is working properly, as you should be able to hear
the relay clicking and determine exactly which
one it is. My original had a label something
along the lines of "warnblinken" or the like.
The replacement was about $80 at the dealer.
