Actually,stuck-in-the-seventies dude, an engine's peak torque rpm is determined by the flow capability of the intake tract, which is a function of length, area, and restriction. Cam timing has little to do with it, no matter what the classes you've taken at HotRod Magazine U have 'taught' you. Cam timing can only complement or hurt what is designed in. The 454 is a fine engine, but it suffers from a poor rod ratio, a terrible exhaust port, 2 DIFFERENT INTAKE PORTS!!, and poor cast iron quality(compared to say, Fords). BMW 850 engines came stock with over 1BHP/cubic inch, and over 100% v.e.(you do know what v.e. is, don't you?). 296bhp, with a paltry 6000 rev limit. How does the 454 stack up to that?
Enginespeak IS spoken here, my toothless friend. I own and drive an NHRA Super Gas car, am part owner and engine supplier for a Nascar Late Model stock car team, and have a street driven high 10 second(when everything is right)Ford Maverick(!!).I also own and enjoy a beautiful red BMW 850. One of the reasons I bought it is because I AM an Engine Man, and it has THE engine. I look at the insides of Detroit iron constantly, people paying me good money to bring them just CLOSE to what the BMW offers. So, in answer to your 3 questions, I don't know, don't need to know at the present time, but could find out very quickly if the need arose. You are too trivial a need for me to waste time on. So, dude, turn up your Lynyrd Skynyrd Free Bird, take off your Monster Mudders, put on some slicks and let's race!!
To the other board members: sorry to waste the bandwidth, but I love a good debate with a self-proclaimed engine 'expert' that thinks a dykes ring is homosexual, and 'bolt-on' means 'race'.
