You know, I did this on another car, but it had a turbo. It didn't change the sound, as the muffler has the most influence on that. I had a new Borla muffler on it as well, and the muffler never had a problem with it.
Performance wise on that car, it didn't seem to increase much, but it sure as hell came on quicker. The turbo spooled quite quickly and I reached full boost at lower rpms.

So, I think it would help turbo cars better than normal, for no other reason than the turbo can take advantage of the higher flow better. On our cars, with 4 pipes running down, I think it would help less... but it should help a bit. Feeling the difference on a 4000 lb car, though, might be hard.
