I don't think the Porsche will be less expensive to maintain then an 8 series.
The 5 series is a different car, different style. If you like the 4 door sport sedan then go for it otherwise choose whichever you like better. I'd say the E39 will be a slighly less expensive to run over the time but mostly due to age of the car. Parts cost are similar, labor is same.
