Thanks again,
Emir
The turbo.
The turbo is acting as a muffler close to the source.
I have new cats on my car, hi-cap they are, and I have twin mufflers on my 3" custom exhaust system.
Like Loren says I don't tink you will have a increase sound if You remove the cats, but the stock ones create a preasure drop whitch creates a larger preasure on the exahust ports which consumes more energy from the engine to push the exahust gases out.
If You remove the cats You WILL get more torque but the question is how much?
When I replaced my entire exahust system (from header all the way back to the end pipes) I could feel a differance, well in sound also.
On the question if mufflers will be wear faster:
Yes probably they will wear faster, but how much faster? But how much faster?
Sorry I dont have info enough, but my guess is that You will not notice this.

How many of us have turbos anyway??? I posted a note months ago regarding complete removal of the cats...with no response from the Board. However, I'd still like to do it. Emir, have you looked at the pipe shape? I think it is oval, and may be a bit hard to find, although I am not certain.
Also, Mikeal, if you read this...where did you get the headers? From what material are they made?...And if you don't mind my asking...$$$ from manifolds to tips??
I'm after the sound more than anything...I would love to get more low-end power...but figure that will come with a chip one day.
Doesn't removing the cats ( on my '93 ) also send an incorrect message to the oxygen sensors? I'm considering replacing the sensors as part of my DIY Inspection II....but if they would become unecessary, I'd hold off.
Thanks gentlemen.
