My AC stopped working when the engine temp went up also. After the temp went down to mid-guage I turned the AC off then back on and it started working again (similar to the slipping belt fail-safe on our cars that can turn off the AC when the engine gets wet and the belt slips slightly, thus giving the computer the impression the AC clutch has siezed or increased friction?)
Perhaps there is also a fail-safe switch to keep the engine from overworking in a high heat status?
