There is a coil for each cylinder, which I am sure you discovered when you were changing plugs and wires etc. The coils are like a light switch, either it works (it's on) or it doesn't work (it's off) and thats for each cylinder, there isn't much inbetween. That is why when they don't work you always get a miss or an uneven running. However, almost always when a coil goes bad it just goes bad and stays that way, although sometimes they do go off and on for awhile although very rare. I would guess that you are having some king of fuel problem instead unless the miss continues to miss on a definite basis. I wonder did you do your fuel filters?

Gentlemen ( you too Aluminum/Blah ),
I've read that the coils in my '93 are better replaced near the 60k mile mark. I've just gone through a DIY change of: plugs, dist. rotor & caps, oil, brake fluid, final drive gear lube, CHS 11, radiator drain, K & N Filters, fuel filters, and ran Techron through two consectutive tanks of gas (89 octane). However, the VERY first push on the gas in the morning out of the driveway is followed by a brief, but conisitent lag in acceleration (Autobox).
Anyone know how faulty or "diminishing" coil performance would be reflected in engine performance? I've considered replacing the spark plug wires and the coils as preventative maintenance.
Be safe boys!
