Please look through the archives for this information. Using the tools provided within the site, you can search on words or phrases...or just scan the titles.
In essence, there were ~36,000 BMW 8 Series produced wordlwide. Approximately 6,000 made it to the USA/North America (1/6th of total worldwide production...very low). ~200 of the units were 850CSi's in 1994-95 (high output 372hp 12 cyl 6spd manuals). Another ~200 were 6spd manuals from 1991-93 with 12 cyl engines. The rest were automatic transmissions. The 8 Series was available worldwide from 1990-99. In the USA/NA, the 8 Series was from 1991-97. The 840 was introduced in the USA/NA in 1994 model year (8 cyl). The 94-95 8 cyl models had some engine issues (another topic-see archives).
If you're looking for an 8 series, my suggestion is to look at the following in order of importance (my view...subject to discussion):
- 1994-95 850CSi - prepare to spend anywhere from $45K-$80K
- 1991-93 850i/850ci with a 6spd manual transmission with low miles (less than 40K miles), prepare to spend approximately $30K-$40K
- 1996-97 840ci with automatic transmission (no manuals shipped to USA) $30K-$60K...or 1994-95 with resolved engine issues $30K-$40K
- 1991-97 850i/850ci with an automatic transmission with low miles or EXCELLENT service history with high miles $25K-$60K
Good luck.

Is there anywhere that lists production #s for the 8s showing total numbers produced each year, and also breaks down the color combinations for each year.
