8 series 0 - 60 time? Must be better than this... (archive)

Some guy in a good looking red 8 series recently recently provoked me into a on ramp drag race. I figured he would smoke me, but what the the hell? He sure wanted to show off.

My '00 540iA sport beat him easily; he took the next offramp, so I didn't catch the specific model designation. Looked pretty new, though, with aftermarket wheels.

I've been toying with the idea of finding a nice early 90's 8 as a weekend driver, but would be disappointed if it was slower than my everyday sedan. I think my 540 owners manual says 5.9 sec to 100Km (62 MPH). Aren't 8's a helluva lot quicker?
