The 8 is not a drag racer and it takes a lot of work to propell two tonnes to 100 kph. That said it's 0-62 time is respectable at 6.4 seconds for the 96 850Ci and 7.2 seconds for the 96 840Ci.
By the way I believe .5 seconds difference is unnoticable in the real world.
