..If there's no prize at the end of the day, why take the risk? With all of the road rage out there, I prefer to have my speed experiences in private. Even though our cars are capable, and most of us who drive them probably have above average capability, the other guys are worried about what's in the cup holder and what's playing on the radio. The last thing the guy in a minivan is watching for is a "Continent Shrinker" coming from behind at twice his speed.

And that's EXACTLY why I opt to blow right past them, not waddle with them. After 2 drunk drivers nailed me as I nicely drove along at the speed limit with nothing on my mind, I realized not only do I see them coming more at a higher speed (because I'm more alert when I drive fast... not reckless... just a bit faster), but I haven't had so much as a tick on my car in years. I'm a harder target to hit 90% of the time.

I used to be in the defensive driving mind frame. Now I'd much rather watch them make stupid mistakes and blow by them than hope they don't just turn into me while we're driving side by side...

Its sick logic, but its true. Why do you think drunk drivers almost always survive the crash while the innocent people who were thinking about tweety birds die. Because the drunk had more momentum and the slow drivers were oblivious. When I'm driving at 75, I'm checking mirrors twice as much, watching everything around me.

I fear rush hour for no other reason than I can't escape the ocean of uninsured moronic drivers in LA that rear end you while they're fussing with the radio.

but if the road is open, I'd much rather be passing them. Granted, I don't mean irresponsible 100mph in the car pool lane stuff. But add 10 mph to whatever the speed limit is, and you'll invariably give the morons much less time to expose you to their bumper car driving school ways.

:)
