I'm new to this board....A month and 2,000 miles ago took delivery of a '91 850i, with 61,000 miles, brite red over parchment interior. Replaced a V-12 Jag XJS, which we've had five years and 75,000 miles--- a car not to be criticized. But the 850 is in another league. We're about to start a 3,000 mile trip in it. I also purchased an Advantage exended 36k/36mo. warranty for it. Check their website at www.advwarranty.com. I found a noticable performance advantace in the 850 over the 840. To for your 850 --- try to get an extended warranty, and don't look back!!!
I currently have a '94 840ci. I just went to the BMW dealer this past week to get an engine check/leak down check after just becoming aware about the problems associated with the 8 cylinder engines. The BMW technician stated that my engine was great . . . but did not want to comment as to when it might become problematic. He also said that I was out of warranty.

My first question is whether an engine replacement is an eventuality for my 840ci?

I just saw a 91 850i (manual) for $30,000 (US) and thought about buying that car instead. If I were to purchase the 850i, which is stated to be in great condition, what would be a reasonable price for that car?
