There is a Technical Service Bulletin regarding the Heater Core. It can blow if the coolant gets too hot. BMW will give you a new radiator cap that will release pressure if it gets too hot. Mine didn't have it and the core blew. My leg was burned and it cost $1,500 to replace (the heater core that is). Check out NHTSA's web site for other recalls and TSBs.

Have my eye on a 1991 850i.. was wondering what the common problems are with this specific model and year. What can i expect for maintencance costs etc... I would appreciate all input...
