To convert foot-pounds into Newton-meters (or Joules) multiply by 1.356 (and if you want to be real precise - 1.3558180 :-)*

Ok, but the US unit pounds is a measurment of mass or weight.
In europe we use Newton to measure force.
So,
1 foot = 0.305 m
1 pund = 0.454 kg
Earth accelaration = 9.8 m/s2

1 Nm = 0.305 (1 foot) * 0.454 (1 pound) * Earth acceleration * (1.3558180) conversion coeficient
So acctualy your Earth acceleration = 9.791

Ok, that makes sens, but your torque unit will not work at moon !! (hahahaha) Excues me, but that is, lets say it nicely, not wise.

It also makes your unit choise dependen of altitude the measurment was made on :-)

I think I will stick to a unit that can be used all over the world......

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)) :-))
