DK Motor and EML Light (archive)

About 8 months ago when I started my 91' 850i the EML light turned on and my engine only ran on 6 cylinders. I would turn off the engine and start it up again, and it would run fine. However as time went on the problem got worse. I took it in, spent over $1400 to replace leaky manifold gaskets. The car ran fine for a couple of weeks. The same problem occured. WHen I restarted the engine, a huge white cloud of smoke would come out. I brought it in again, now they tell me it's the DK Motor and the relays. They said it will run around $900. HELP!!! anyone have any thoughts.
