If you had the opportunity to purchase a pristine 850csi that had never been in a collision but had been entirely repainted by a BMW authorized dealer (Assuming the re-spray quality was equal to the factory job, or virtually undetectable) how would the resale be affected? Also consider that the car has sound mechanicals, and less than 20k on the clock. Would you still buy it? The confusing question is what is the unwritten rule where its okay to repaint a car that's so many years old; but not okay to repaint a car that is just so many years old? Theoretically any enthusiast would buy a classic Ferrari that had been repainted (i.e 250GT California spider); but would walk from a 360 Modena that had been entirely repainted. Why? TIA
The car was repainted in the proper manner by a authorized BMW dealer, using factory paint. The entire car was repainted the same color. In looking at the paint each panel has constant paint coverage/ integrity without any dirt underneath, the job is of the highest caliber. The reason for the re-spary was simply scrapes, chips and scuffs from sitting in a tight garage, uncovered for a number of years. Which is understandable, all records show that the miles are accurate, the interior and engine are concours quality. The question(s) still remain... Did the re-spray hurt the value? If so how much?
TIA
