My 850 is leaking some type of fluid. It looked as though it was coming from the power steering reservoir or the brake master cylinder. Yesterday I cleaned around that area and took the car out for a drive and came back to check it. Now it appears to becoming from the cannister in front of the power steering. I have no idea what this cannister is. It is silver in color and have two screws at the top and is located right next to the power steering reservoir. It also has some type of fluid in it. Can someone please tell what this cannister is and its function?
I took the car in friday to a independent Bmw repair shop and they told me they thought it was the hose clamps to the bottom of the power steeering reservoir tank because these clamps usually wear out. I just don't think the fluid is coming from the clamps because there is fluid on the side of the power steering reservoir next to the silver cannister. There is also fluid on the side of the silver cannister and fluid on the the two screws at the top of the cannister. It looks as though the fluid is comming from the top of the cannister near the two screws and leaking down.
Any advice would be helpful. The car has an extended warranty but it doesn't cover hoses and clamps. So I would like to repair it if that all it is, but I don't think that is the PROBLEM.
Thanks for your help as always.

That should be the oil filter cannister. What color is the fluid? Pentosin power steering fluid is a very light green. Oil is yellowish brown.
