That button is to turn on the light on the front of the key, its a little flashlight so you can see the keyhole at night. My '92 535i has the same key, but also has a seperate unit, single button to activat and de-activate the alarm. It isn't too hi-tech, but I'd assume if my '92 5 series had a standard alarm, your '91 8 series would have the same or better system. My dad's '94 840ci has key with integrated alarm buttons, 3 buttons, lock, unlock and panic.. I believe, its really cool, and a much better system than my car.

Now I am really wondering?? does my 91 have the remote keyless entry?? The Key fob has a button to push with BMW on it? Did American 91s have a keyless entry?? I have been telling many on the board that I didn't think 91 had it? am I wrong??

Perhaps the guy I bought my car from simply had an aftermarket installed because he didn't know?
