forgatten very often about tires. You should always maintain the same height of the OEm size. Why ? because simply the ABS and all the other sophisticated device is set to those parameters.
The 285/40ZR17 is 25.97" versus the OEM is 25.25"
this is about a 3/4 of inch difference or almost 2cm (1.9cm) if you don't mind that the speedo will cheat (show you lower speed then the real) it is fine. You should keep the difference within 2-3% and this is below that line. some people say 5% is still oke, I'd guess might but why risk when the 275 or 285 is wide enough. I also have 275/40ZR17 with a lowered springs, Bilstein shocks and that is the MAX. for me. I have about 1cm between my shocks and tires on the rear. That is as far as I want to go...
