I'm with you, Vance. I believe the horizontal one is where the armrest should mount. I'm looking forward to Mark's results. If he gets a design that works I'm sure all of us will want to get one.

I'd like to see the rest be foldable and have a cavity on the underside that would fit over the phone.

The design I am going with has the armrest mounted vertically but where the front angled slot is now. It will retain the rear vertical storage area, and foldability of the armrest. However, I'm using the E36 armrest with the interior storage, so the bottom is flat, unlike the '99 M3 armrests with have a space for the phone underneath. I removed my BMW phone and put a Motorola Vader car kit where the BMW phone is, and I'm hoping that the armrest will mount just over the phone. If the height is wrong, then we will put the car kit inside the armrest to move it lower.
