Hello All,

I have an 840Ci, and I noticed that if I warm up the car for about 5 minutes every morning (until the temp needle moves a smidget past half-way) my car will perform MUCH better in acceleration and fuel mileage than if I just started driving it right away.

What is the best and safest way to warm up an 8 when it is cold in the morning? I worry that idling the engine for 5 minutes in the morning may not be so good for it, but I want the satisfaction of a fully awake engine so I can fully appreciate the driving experience.

Any info would be really helpful. Thanks!
Richard

I imagine your method would mean a warm engine and a cold transmission. If you then drive assuming the car is fully warmed up your transmission must take some extra wear and tear.

I agree with the others. Short idle, drive with care until engine and trans are warm then use the performance.
