Lez,

I dropped into the dealer this AM. The vents are supposed to be backlit (as you suggested) but they tell me the door panel has to come off - can't do it by removing the switch module. The bulbs are 10 cents each - they want one hour (read $100)to re&re the panels. I'd do it myself but I know I'll break some clips (at the very least) so I'm hesitant. Maybe I'll wait till I need to take the panel off for something else. It's a bummer cause at the moment that's the ONLY thing that isn't working 100% on the car.
