I too warm up the V12 in our '92 750iL and will continue to do so. This car runs very grumpily if I crank and go. Last week I drove it 35 miles this way and it still sounded off when I arrived at my destination. However that little 5-7 minute warm up, makes all the difference in the world. I disagree with the owners manual. I don't care about the small amount of gas wasted and don't buy into the carbonization theory. This car gets Amsoil lubricants and their fuel additive to 92 octane. I don't have plug fouling or valve train difficulties with this practice. Bimmer magazine this month dwells on this idea of whether BMW recommendations are really in the best interests of our cars. But you'll have to make up your own mind
Hello All,

I have an 840Ci, and I noticed that if I warm up the car for about 5 minutes every morning (until the temp needle moves a smidget past half-way) my car will perform MUCH better in acceleration and fuel mileage than if I just started driving it right away.

What is the best and safest way to warm up an 8 when it is cold in the morning? I worry that idling the engine for 5 minutes in the morning may not be so good for it, but I want the satisfaction of a fully awake engine so I can fully appreciate the driving experience.

Any info would be really helpful. Thanks!
Richard
