Does anyone know where I can find inexpensive tires for a 850i. The range of prices I have seen are ridiculous. Comments on what brand are appreciated.

You might want to try tirerack.com. I'm buying set of five tires from them this week for my wife's 528i/sport. I had good experience with Dunlops and Bridgestones and was choosing between Dunlop SP8000 and Bridgestone RE71. You'll find several between $100-$150 price range which I think is "economic grade" for 8 series.
