Kurt is correct. The condition of the Uninsured Motorist Property Damage coverage is that you must have the license plate number of the car that did the damage. You also need a police report. You can go to the local police department closest to the location where the incident occurred and file a counter report. I am not sure how long after the fact they will accept a report. My advice is to handle it the legal and straightforward way rather than the vigilante way of looking up the guys plate and tracking him down yourself. One can only imagine what a guy in Arizona driving a pickup truck and running an appliance repair/installation business keeps around the house.

Arizona laws are different than California's. I do know that they require that you have insurance and maintain it to keep the car registered. To the best of my knowledge, the insurance companies are linked to the DMV and know if a policy has cancelled during its term. Based on that, the guy likely does have insurance - he just does not want them or the poloce to know about the incident. Perhaps he has something else to hide such as something on his driver's license that will become a problem for him if he goes legal and owns up to the crime. It is also possible that he is not insured to use the vehicle for commercial/business purposes. Way too many times I had customers with pickups come in and swear they did not use the truck for business. I would go out to the parking lot and see the truck with signs and racks and the premiums would double ro triple.

So there are a few hints. It's up to you where to take it from here.

Also,
Immediately inform you car insurance agent and make a claim giving him all the info on the guy. Your insurance will find who insures him and contact his insurance company. If he has no insurance then he could loose his license. Your insurance has an obligation to handle this for you and if the guy has no insurance then your
un-insured motorist coverage will pick up the costs at no harm to your insurance record.
Perhaps Greg T. the former insurance agent will confirm this.
Kurt
