Howdy Bert,
Actually, if your car is running with the old batteries hooked up and you attach an outside battery to the positive charging post and either the frame or a negative post, it will have to power the car, impossible not to. So understanding that it is not working, you are probably making a typical Kurt (retarded) mistake of some sort. First of all, being careful, check out the positive and negative posts that you intend on using while your old batteries are still connected and working and make sure that there is current running through them. If there is no juice on the charging or jumping post then it has become disconnected somehow. Then you will have to check to see what electrical connections and functions are in the line connected to the positive jumping post that could go out and break the connection. If there is juice on the positive jumping post, then perhaps you removed your old batteries first and in doing so have also broken the connection somehow.
Or, perhaps the new batteries are not up to full charge? or perhaps the jumper wires are bad. I had had all these things happen to me at one time or another. I'm sure you know this all ready.
So, to your original question, what electrical functions in the line such as relays, or fuse-links or ??? could also be the culprit?? Some of the guys have an electrical manual out there probably Lez. Very interesting situation.
Good Luck, Kurt
