This fall, when I reached the point where the car batteries were turned off, the electrical system went completely dead. Zero, zilch, nada. A volt-ohmmeter showed 12V at the jumper cable clamps, disconnected from the posts. I must therefore conclude that there has been a failure in the system that is preventing the 12V from powering the electrical system.

The cure for now is to buy a second charger, which I have done, and attach each one to a battery in order of keep both batteries up to snuff while I am traveling. The only problem remaining is that if I ever need a jump start, I will not be able to use the posts in the engine bay. And, I would simply like to keep my car 100% operational.
