For winter storage, I attach a battery to the jump start posts, and then turn off the batteries via key operated cables. In this way, the electrical system never loses power, and the various memories are retained. Periodically, I charge each battery individually, turn on the battery switches, and run the car for 15 minutes. Then I turn the batteries on, and put the smart charger back on the external battery.
