Re: my '92 850iA. This started happening a few weeks ago, but continues to be intermittent and hard to duplicate -
To wit: when I make a hard turn (left or right) and mostly turning uphill, I hear a noise that sounds something like a rachet, or a tire rubbing (bap bap bap bap), which speeds up or slows down with the car. The noise goes away after a short while, and is not present most of the time. The sound is difficult to localize, but seems to come from center to the rear of the car. There is some vibration transmitted through the car.
I checked the wheels, tires, and wheel wells and there is no sign of rubbing anywhere. (Note: wheels are MK 1's - 18x11" rear, 18x9.5" front, with Pilot sports 285/35 and 245/40's. Problem was not there prior to putting on new wheels, but didn't occur until a month or so ago). I also ran through all the gears in auto and manual mode, and it doesn't appear to be coming from the transmission. I ran the engine up in Park and Neutral and no noise. So my suspicions are with something in either the driveshaft or the rear end. Possibilities: U-joints, shocks (EDC), suspension bushings.....
Any thoughts or suggestions gladly taken.
Thanks
Stan C.
