Nikasil/Alusil dates for 840's (archive)

If I am correct in my assumption, can someone tell me what date the 840 motor changed to Alusil? I am new to this and y'all seem well clued up. I read all about Nikasil bashing but what happens to a Nikasil lined motor when it supposedly grows old? What are we talking about here? can someone put this in perspective for me.
