A correctly functioning V12 should *consume* oil, actually, even more than the average 6 or 8 cylinder engine. High friction areas near combustion areas, including cylinders bores and valve guides, must remain lubricated. As a result, they pass small amounts of oil into the combustion chamber, particularly under hard acceleration when crankcase pressure is fairly high. Withhout lubrication of these areas damage would occur. The V12 has twice as many of these surface areas thanks to its added cylinders and valves. It follows that it uses a bit more oil than a comparable sized 6 or 8 cylinder engine in everyday running. Same issues for other V12s from Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes, etc. Slightly more oil consumption from greater number of exposed friction surfaces. Nothing new. Greg K
