If you also have a 4 speed, then its the same deal I suppose, though I don't remember hearing or seeing a 4 speed with a stock 3.73 ever. But if you have a 5 speed auto, then they pumped it up to 3.73 for a reason... maybe with the added 5th gear, they could pump it up to 3.73 and still preserve the top end. Then the 4 other gears could be smaller than those found on a 4 speed, and acceleration would be nice. In that case, it makes sense that you could go higher than 3.73 and really increase your acceleration and sacrifice your top end. Then again, assuming you have the 5 speed, it might be shifting too often at low speeds because of its lower gearing if you went 4.00 plus.
You know, Greg Kovecses is the man on this subject... everything I'm saying I owe to his detailed responses (if I got anything wrong, it means I'm a bad student). Maybe he'll see this post...
So, I'm guessing the net effect of going to 3.91 from 3.73 will be mild, but nice. Going to anything above that with a 5 speed auto might be hitting the Honda-shift-every-15mph-annoying range...
