Interesting point here in Oklahoma: Porsche turbos are so ubiquitous you can't swing a dead cat without hitting one. However, 8's are still VERY rare (I see about as many on the road as Ferrari's and Lambo's). My friend had a Lotus Turbo SE and when we would both visit the local pub/restaurant, it was interesting the difference in those people that would comment on our cars. My friend got a lot of admiring comments from the boy racers, whereas I would get comments from any and all gender/age groups from 5 year-old kids to the geriatric crowd. Just my .02 worth. Also, to be fair, you can't really compare the essentially 10 or 11 year old 8 to a new generation M5 or M3. However, if the 8 series IS resurrected (see earlier posts regarding THAT issue) you can bet it will have the next generation V12's (which is over 400HP) and will once again be up there with the big boys in performance. Besides, on the highway there still aren't too many cars that can hold a candle to my 9 model-year-old car.
