This is a perfect opportunity to make use of our board's extensive archives. The information you are asking for has been discussed/posted at great length. Like others here, I'm glad to contribute, but would like to avoid posting answers to the same questions twice a week!

Briefly, use the gear/speed forumula's in the archives to choose a suitable ratio, and the compatability information in the archives to find a suitable donor differential. It's all there in great detail.

Your 8-Series owners manual contains the stock ratios for your e31s differential and transmission gears. If you have a stock 4spd autobox, its gearing is 3.64 (not 3.63).

Good luck and in all seriousness, don't hesitate to post follow-up questions should something not make sense or you need *additional* information.

Loren,

Sorry, I remembered my gears are 3.63 also. I dont going to 4.10 or 4.17's will give the honda effect. I'm willing to give up some top end for much better acceleration. I just wanna know my tires can light up if I wanted them too. Plus when our 1996 740iL can go neck and neck with mine, you know your gearing is wrong.

Emir
