Yesterday I made an interestin discovery. The 840Ci was always said to have the 2.93 rear end gear ration if equipped with auto transmission. This isn't true, the 96+ modells were changed to 2.81. 94-95 is 2.93 only, the manual 6spd transmission version was 3.08 all the years. So the 2.93 is already an upgrade for us but not a big upgrade... The 3.15 should be the perfect for us out of a Euro 850i. The US 850i was 3.64 while the S. African version was 3.45 and all the 850Ci from 95 also used the 2.81 according to BMW TIS CD. who would have thought the BMW actually forced the 840Ci in 1996 to do exactly same as before with a 10% smaller engine. Why ? They should have kept the 2.93 and a car would have been quicker off-line a bit... never understanded the manufacturers completely
