There is a product called Klean-Strip KS-3 Premium Stripper that will do the job. I haven't used it yet but I just got a tin from Emir and he's used it on his engine and it removed all the cosmoline. It's manufactured by W.M. Barr & Co of Memphis.

Be EXTREMELY careful not to get it on plastic, or rubber.
