thanks for your reply. my dealer stated it was a special order on the 840ci 1997 that I have just purchased. On the bmwusa.com they don't show the color Fjord grey only aspen silver. I'm still confused.

Fjord Grey is a common colour on newer NA E38s 7series. This colour - 310 was, first offered on the E31 and was standard issue, at least in Euro and CND models.
