Gotcha,
I'll try it as soon as I get back to the car. Should be a week or so. But....What if nobody hears it but yooooouuuuu.....{:-))

By the way, it's 5am here in northern California, what time is it there? Have you had breakfast?
I'm about to make myself some scrambled eggs.
See ya, Kurt

Dear Kurt,

I am kind of a music freak ;-) Worked as a DJ when I was younger, have a lot of music equipment in my place, play the electric bass...so I kind of pay attention to music and volume. ;-)

There are two ways to notice the change:

1) When speeding up. Before speeding up, play a song that you know well and put the volume on a level where you can hear the lyrics clearly. No too loud, just enough to clearly hear the lyrics. Push the pedal and pay attention to the external sounds as well as the song. You will hear the change and you will probably still be able to follow the lyrics ;-) Magic...

2) After doing 1) break fast but not hard. The radio seems to have some kind of detay when detecting the change of sound and you will clearly hear the volume decrease to a level that is clearly lower than just seconds before.

As I said...I am a sound freak... ;-)

Best regards,

Fedde

Hey Fedde,
I'm curious myself. Usually with almost any car the volume is loud when the car is standing still or going slow, but when you speed up the radio sound lessens due to the other surrounding sounds of the road, wind etc. However, I am going to pay special attention the next time I drive the Calypso to see if you are right, or, just have too much time on your hands :-)
Kurt

Dear fellow 8:ers,

This is just a curious question I have and I am simply wondering if somebody here has the answer to this.

My 850 has a CD-changer which I often load with nice music for my drives. I am not the kind of driver that plays music loud enough for my ears to drop off, but I play the music at a fairly acceptable level.

I have noticed that when I accelerate with the car or drive at higher speeds when the wheels generate a more clear external sound, the music volume seems to increase by itself. As soon as I move down to slower speeds I can swear I hear the volume decrease to the original level.

I have noticed this in both my E31 and my E46. The question is...is this some undocumented "intelligence" with the BMW-radios (they are both stock) or is this an "illusion" created by the changes of internal and external sounds during the drive? I find no documentation on the radios that explain the behaviour that I believe I hear ;-)

Anybody else out there who has noticed this?

Best regards,

Fedde

P.S. Sorry for this stupid question, but it has really got me thinking. ;-)
