The changer in my 750iL is wacky also. There has been enough to keep me busy so I havn't tackled this one yet. So far I only get to play from slot 1. During loading I have to apply pressure downward to keep the magazine aligned while it goes through it's initial search. My changer is vertically installed on the side of the trunk. It isn't like the magazine is going to pop back out if I don't, it just needs this extra downforce during alignment. A brand new 30.00 magazine didn't help. I think the reason I can't change CD's is because I'm not back there helping out while it changes position, one time it "messed up" during experimentation and changed from 1 to 6. If it's any consolation I know exactly how you feel. My first day with the new ride I had scheduled Paul Hardcastle, The Rippingtons, Craig Chaquico, Acoustic Alchemy, and Lee Ritenour but the gig was cancelled as the previous owner neglected to tell me of the "trick". These players are not expensive just to replace. I see brand new oem Pioneers, just like ours, for 250-300 in all the BMW car magazines. As soon as I get a few more minor things completed I plan on doing just this, and I will repair my other unit off line myself, I don't believe they can be professionally repaired cost effectively with respect to a new unit, but I cannot say with certainty. I've also seen glove box CD changer installations lately which may be of interest to you.

Ross,
Just to be sure - are the cd's are in the magazine with the labels DOWN - they should be. When you insert the magazine does the player cycle through each disc (it should)? If you look at your display do you get the error message while this initial run-through is taking place or only when you have selected the cd player and try to play a disc?
The cd player checks all the discs and determines how many are loaded as soon as you insert the magazine. If it fails at this point it's probably a different problem than if it fails to actually play the first disc.
