Hi Steve

Well basically, they are not "backwards compatible" (to use a PC term). You can't buy an Alpina 20 inch that has the correct offset for a E31. The size specified for the E31 where 9 inch front and 10.5 in the back as an option. The 20s have the correct offset for the front, but not the back. Alpina didn't offer the Softline for the E31 at all, but you can get the Softline for the E36 as well as the classic. Alpinas wheels are "timeline" coordinated, and they don't bother offering new designs for the older cars, i.e. if the car was not in production when the wheel was designed, to bad...

So if you want an Alpina wheels that fits without the use of spacers and such for an E31, it's the 18x9 front/back with the optional 18x10.5 in the back, Classic with exposed stems only. Be aware that you probably need to roll your rear fender if you go with the 10.5 in the back, but this depends on the tire. Michelin and Bridgestone = Roll.

Hope this answered your questions Steve.

Regards
Carl
