My fear is that since this is integrated with the seat controls, ignition, parking brake, door -- that it's a logic problem. Please tell me its a simple fix... ;)
Possibly related to this, I recently replaced the factory stereo head unit with an "Empeg" (a car MP3 player that is actually an ARM powered Linux computer with a big notebook-computer hardrive. I got the 36GB model, which is far larger than I need to contain my entire CD collection). After installing it, I found that it was under-driving the stock Alpine-manufactured amplifier. I really didn't want to replace the amp, and so I figured that a pre-amp of some sort would do the trick. I found a six-channel line driver from Audio Control that works fine. Unfortunately, I had a hard time finding any wiring digram for that amp on the net, although I did find one for the 95 3-series. There's two connectors, a twelve and a twenty-six conductor. The inputs are on the twenty-six, and the outputs are mixed between both. I ended up splicing into all the wiring, but did so very neatly with spade connectors etc. so that it can all be nicely put back in original configuration.
Anyway, I mention this to anyone who needs info on working with the stereo and amp (and speakers). Email me if you need info.
So, this is what I've been doing, but I don't see how that could have affected the steering wheel control???
Happy Holidays to everyone!
