this is a thick plate specially made for the car and wheel combo, and sits between the wheel and the wheel hub. The thicker you need the bigger is the problem. I'd try and get a wheel that fits the E31 perfectly. I've seen 8 series with that type of a wheel so it should fit. I don't know what's the problem, but the spacer is the easy fix.
