Hello Gentlemen,

I just picked up my first 850 recently, a black beauty indeed, in the Bay area. I noticed that its burning oil, a lot of oil. I just added a quart of oil and days later I had to do this again after driving along highway 1. Does anyone know if this is common and if not what I can do about this?

Phil's right on target with his theory. I've owned 7 BMW's, and to varying degrees, they will all consume much more oil if you drive aggressively during "warm-up". What I've found works fairly well, is to drive gently until you see that your engine temp gauge is in the "normal" operating range, then go ahead and drive it harder. You'll still burn some oil, they all seem to do this and it is normal. But, you won't consume a quart per week unless something else is wrong.

Neal
