My first action when I bought my 1993 850i was to clean the ash tray. MISTAKE! The springs jumped out and I still haven't figured out how to get them back in the right place. Is there a trick to this? Did any of you have the same experience and got the ash-tray back as it should be?

(minor problem, but anyway...)

My ashtray was spotless when I bought my 850i, the previous owner was a non-smoker. However, I close the ashtray lid and it stays shut for about 30 seconds and then decides to open on it's own. So far I've been reluctant to take things apart to fix it. It's clean inside, why not keep airing it out?
