The problem with cleaing it is that I don't know of one person here who has done that successfully. One of the persons who wrote one of the descriptions did not succeed ;-) I know because he has my old one...

You might want to remove it and try cleaning the connector first. The procedure is posted in the archive for this board. There are two ways to remove it; from the top via the HVAC vent or from the bottom via the radio head. I'm not sure which is best. I think it may depend on the year.
