Steve,

You are full of crap.

1. If you really were a BMW mechanic, or even a mechanic of any kind, you would really appreciate the car for what it is.

2. If you really owned one, you would really appreciate the car for what it is.

3. If you really were a mechanic of any kind, you would know that German cars are well engineered and have equal or better build quality than Japanese cars. The best German car will easily have better build quality than the best Japanese car. Example: see if a new Lexus LS430 is better built than a new 750il or a Mercedes S600. At the bottom end, see if a new Toyota Echo is better built than a VW Beetle.

4. If you are a BMW tech, where the hell is your loyalty? Or is it that you are you pissed that the dealer is reaming the customer at $90+ an hour and you are being pimped out at about $20/hr. of it.

You obviously don't own an 850, but dream of it. Seems you have visited the board quite a bit and seen all of the "problems" the owners have. If you really owned one, especially as a tech, you would have had some real constructive input before now.

You obviously have come here as others have before and tried to start a fire and then sit back and see what it turns into. Nothing new. It happens every now and again. The regulars here exchange ideas and experiences with the cars and there is genuine camaraderie amongst us, unlike where the board you wandered over from; where the order of the day likely is to abuse the anonymity of the the Internet to flame each other.

Enjoy your Dodge and your Mazda. When you have something constructive to contribute, your comments are always welcome.

I just don't believe it,the 850 is just not that great of a car, I have a 91 60,000 miles, perfect records and has no running problems, the car makes me feel good when I drive it. However BMW, ie, german cars in general are not particularly well designed or that well built for the price that is charged for them ,a japanese car, one fifth the price has twice the build quality and much greater enginering qualities. To prove my point, just look through the archives at the problems with this car and the associated costs for low mileage cars are mind boggling. Quit fooling yourselves you may own an exclusive expensive car but it is typical german... way too expensive for what it is. Lets get specific, $780 for a head light that is not as good as a $10 light in my rx7, a non rack and pinion steering in an expensive car no better than my dodge challenger, oh I'm a mechanic with 25 year under my belt, 10 years as a BMW tech. I'm frankly not impressed and every day cross my fingers that my 850 comes home with no problems. steve
